The sea is the heart of Bodrum. Not only is the region famous for its excellent international marinas and a developed yachting infrastructure, Bodrum is also a historic center of shipbuilding with an impressive history of 2000 years. Bodrum is the birthplace of the infamous Turkish gulet, a wooden yacht distinguished by its wide carcass used for storage before and for spacious luxurious accommodations now. The shipyards in Bodrum area are equipped for servicing, refitting and building any types of yachts all year round. Annually there are over 40 regattas taking place in Milta Marina, D-Marin or Palmarina including the traditional Bodrum Cup that races wooden gulets in the Aegean Sea in-between the peninsula and the Greek Islands. Each of the marinas has the capacity of mooring 550 to 700 yachts and additional 70 mega yachts just in the Palmarina of Yalikavak.
